La Chapelle Expiatoire

Constructed over the old Medeleine Cemetery where the bodies and heads of those guillotined at the nearby Place de la Concorde were dumped, La chappelle Expiatoire houses the bones of those whose bodies and heads were dumped in the church cemetery following their execution on the Place de la Concorde.

The bodies of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, also dumped here, were eventually removed to the royal crypt at Saint Denis. Or so the story goes.
