Opened in 1824 as the "cemetery of the south", Montparnasse is one of the three principal cemeteries of central Paris (the other two being Pere-Lachaise and Montmartre). Originally one necropolis, today rue Emile Richard effectively divides it into les grand and petit cimetieres.

Directions
As you exit from the Metro Edgar Quinet you'll see the walls of the cemetery. Just follow them to the main entrance. From the Raspail Metro stop as you exit look for Boulevard Edgar Quinet; it's just around the corner form the metro. You can turn up rue Emile Richard and enter from there or continue following the cemetery walls down Edgar Quinet to the main entrance.
Entrances
The main entrance is off of Boulevard Edgar Quinet, there are also entrances off rue Emile Richard, one close to rue Froidevaux and one close to Boulevard Raspail, and one at rue Froidevaux where it meets Avenue du Maine.
